THE BIRTH OF JESUS

TEXT: Matthew 1: 18 – 25, John 1:9 – 14
The birth of Jesus brought joy to the world; the celebration that comes with the season is incomparable to other times. The period is always unique as churches, establishments and event centers organize programs to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Markets and malls are full of new goods to allow people buy and prepare for the season. This is interesting! A family gave birth to a child but the whole world celebrates His birthday every year.

The unfortunate thing however is that many people celebrate Christmas without experiencing Christ’s saving grace and actualizing the reason for His birth. Christ’s birth deserves more than mere partying and celebrations. Although, the reason for His birth has been pushed aside by the populace, the truth of His birth can never be disregarded. He is a unique child, conceived in a wonderful way and born for a divine purpose, (Luke 1:35).

God sent His son Jesus because of His great love for man. We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Our first father, Adam made us to be enslaved by sin. God sent His son to reconcile us back to Him and set us free (John 3:16). Whosoever the son has set free, he is free indeed (John 8:36). He said come to me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28). Jesus came to the world and allowed Himself to be sacrificed to save mankind from the bondage of sin that began with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He shed His blood on the cross and resurrected our souls to save. The chastisement of our peace was placed on Him. (Isaiah 53:3 -7)

He came to the world so that we can be reconciled back to God and have direct access to God through His name, using the key of prayers with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and not through sacrifices done by priest in the old testament. What a great deliverance He has given to us through His blood. (Isaiah 53:3)
He came to the world to proclaim the gospel of His salvation. He came to conquer death, grave and hell and want this salvation keep manifesting from generation to generation through proclamation of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to make disciples of us so that we can keep spreading the good news after His ascension.

We are the light He left behind on earth, we need to keep shining for Him till He comes back. He came to heal the sick, set the captive free, bring light into darkness, to serve as mediator of the new covenant.
Therefore brethren, regardless of all celebrations and plans to enjoy the season of His birth, we need to always keep in mind the reasons for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that we can be watchful and obey His will and not just celebrate yearly. May His grace be sufficient for us to fulfill the purpose of His birth for us as Christians in Jesus name. Amen.
