THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD
PSALM 33:4, 36:5
Being faithful is the ability to keep one’s word and the promises made. Ability to follow through to commitment and dedication. Humans can fail promises and friends can deny words and commitments made. Lately, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to trust people, you cannot predict the next actions of your neighbour, the world is full of atrocities. Despite all the calamities in this vain world, God is still ever faithful even if we doubt Him, He is true to His words. There are different testimonies from people to prove the faithfulness of God.
One of the favourite verses on the faithfulness of God is found in Lamentations 3:22-23; “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness”. When we are down, His words lift us up; in sorrow, He is our comforter, He is our redeemer and He loved us while we were yet sinners.
Every night, He protects us from evil while we sleep, unaware of our environment and in the morning His love, compassion and faithfulness comfort and guide us. He is faithful and always on time. God’s faithfulness adds value to our lives and perfects our desires. He provides for us when we call upon Him, and regardless of the number of times, He welcomes and listens to us. He grants us knowledge and wisdom to excel, He sends help to us. Yes, He is true to His words. The hymn “Great is thy Faithfulness, Oh Lord my Father” testifies to this.
God is ever faithful, daily calling sinners to repentance and salvation. He is rich in mercy and is long-suffering not willing that any should perish. We experience His great faithfulness by accepting the sacrifice of His only begotten Son who died to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. His death and resurrection affords us escape from eternal perdition. He never forsakes us and even in our filthiness, He craves to bring us back to Himself.
He is faithful to fight for us, He defends us, gives us His words as weapon of our battle, and teaches our hands to war. He sends His Holy Spirit to help us, leads us triumphantly through the path of temptation and makes us whole. From generation to generation, He changeth not (Psalm 119:90). 2Timothy 2:13: “If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful: He cannot deny Himself” He is ever faithful to His words and promises; He gives us good seasons and weather to live in. Despite all our temptations and trials, He is faithful to keep us His. He makes us victorious and will take us safely home at last. What a great and faithful God! Oh! So great is thy Faithfulness.
Beloved, we need to embrace His faithfulness by serving Him daily and avoiding everything that can make us spurn His love and deny His faithfulness. We should acknowledge Him in all our ways and He will prove His faithfulness in our lives. May the Lord grant us the grace and ability to appreciate His Faithfulness to us. Amen.
