HOW FAR WITH YOUR PORTION?
It was the beginning of another farming season. Our father, the wealthiest farmer in the community, had assigned each of us different portions to clear. He would not tolerate idleness or waste of time. The portions varied in size, depending on our individual abilities.
Fehu and Hita had the smallest portions assigned, they were very excited, theirs weren’t so large. This would allow them to play football as soon as they were done, they quipped. They failed to realize that their father, in his wisdom, gave just what would occupy each of us till the end of the day and nothing less.
A couple of hours into the assignment, Father went around the farm to see how well we were faring. Looking around, some were almost done with theirs while others like Fehu and Hita were not making good progress. “How far with your portions?” he asked as he got to each of us. “It will soon be time to go home.”
This question made me reminisce about our sojourn on earth as God’s children. We have been saved from sin and commissioned by Christ for service. We have various talents given by our Heavenly Father and we will give accounts of our lives based on these talents. How far have we gone in fulfilling our call and getting the work done?
How was your singing ministry last year? How did you go with the Great Commission? How many souls were won following your work of evangelism? Were you committed to your ministry of intercession? Have you been clearing your portion well enough? At the end of the day, when it’s time to go home and give an account, how well would you have fared?
It’s another year, full of opportunities for a better life and service. Do not continue to live comparing yourself with others. Never underrate your abilities based on another person’s great achievements and talents. Everyone has different fields and portions assigned, work on yours and not another. Do not waste time, you know not when it will be time up!
The strength to clear your portion, and that in a way worthy of commendation is available through the power of the Spirit. Today gives the opportunity of a new beginning, start afresh if need be! This year, determine to do and be your best. The grace to finish strong and to win the crown, the Lord will bestow as we ask Him. Amen
